Cyberattacks are becoming increasingly common these days. This is particularly true of ransomware.
This attack involves stealing personal data from infected computers.
It is therefore software hidden within a malicious email which, once opened, encrypts your data and then blocks access to it. Cybercriminals then issue a ransom demand in cryptocurrency in exchange for decrypting your data.
Let's take a look at BitPaymer ransomware. This is the new ransomware from the creators of "Dridex" (a banking Trojan).
ESET (a technology company based in Slovakia) recently demonstrated that the authors of Dridex also created "FriedEx."
Originally named BitPaymer, FriedEx targets higher-level companies. Its goal:
- Obtaining as much information as possible through phishing;
- Spread throughout the network in the following days;
- Then aim for the largest bank account for the ransom demanded.
FriedEx therefore targets users such as executives and company directors.
First discovered in 2017, BitPaymer ransomware is known for infecting hospitals and demanding huge ransoms.
