During the night of June 5 to 6, the town of Sarrebourg (Moselle) was the victimof aransomware cyberattack. The cybercriminals encrypted their computer data.
In accordance with ANSSI recommendations, the municipality immediately filed a complaint. It also refused to pay the ransom of 7.6 bitcoins (nearly €55,000) that was demanded.

The origin of the attack remains unknown at this time. As a precaution, Fabien Di Filippo, Representative for the 4th district of Moselle, announced that Sarrebourg City Hall employees would be trained to avoid falling victim to such attacks in the future. The municipality also warned neighboring communities after falling victim to another virus last May.
